Are you interested in choosing a new word of the year?
Perfect! You are in the right place.
A few years ago I decided to choose my first word of the year and I’ve never looked back. I love how having a word of the year helps steer me towards my biggest goals and dreams.
Today I’m going to share with you over 200 word of the year ideas, so you can find your perfect word too!

Why choose a word of the year?
A word of the year will guide you as you navigate the year ahead. It’s a gentle reminder to continue to create the life you desire. It both connects you to your priorities and keeps you grounded. It is a powerful statement of your intentions for the year to come!
How do you choose a word of the year?
It’s pretty simple, really. Try this 3 step system to picking your perfect word of the year.
Create a vision board or a brainstorm web of your dreams & goals
One of the best ways to choose an effective word of the year is to create a vision board and/or brainstorm your biggest desires for the year ahead. You can do this digitally, in a journal, using a picture frame or even on a spare blank piece of paper! For more advice on creating a physical vision board, check out this article over at Huffpost.
Jot down a few words that really resonate with you
Next, you’ll want to research and create a list of ideas. Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of choices for you below. Write down a few options that you intuitively connect with. Don’t overthink this step! Some people will jot down 30, others 3. Whatever you end up with is perfect, just write down the words you connect the most to.
Reflect and decide on your word (or words!)
Now it’s time to reflect over these choices and journal your thoughts. Sleep on it, as they say. Let your mind wander. Which word keeps coming back to you again and again? Try to really consider which word makes you feel the most excited and empowered about the year to come.
Does choosing a word of the year replace traditional New Year’s resolutions?
In short, it can, but it certainly doesn’t have to.
If you find New Year’s resolutions to be stressful, and you find yourself abandoning them after a week or a month, you may want to consider choosing a word of the year to guide and inspire you instead.
If you enjoy having specific, measurable goals for the new year you can also use them together. You may find your word of the year inspires you to stick to your resolutions!

My 2020 Word of the Year…
…was SIMPLIFY.
And boy, did my life simplify in 2020. I went on a personal mission to declutter our home and simplify our physical space. I also wanted to focus on the basics (content & promotion) to grow my blog and stop being distracted by all the things everyone else tells you that you should be doing from the very beginning. As a nap time blogger, I don’t have 40 hours a week to dedicate to growing this thing! Furthermore, the pandemic obviously simplified our day to day. With the closing of jobs and activities, life became about treasuring simple pleasures and time as our little family of 3.
It’s been a very challenging year. Our whole world turned upside down. But with change comes growth, and there is still a lot of good that came out of it. For one, I am so grateful for all the extra time with my sweet girl. It gave me the gift of the extended maternity leave I only dreamed of having.
Now, 2021 is right around the corner. Here’s to hoping it’s an entirely different kind of year!
My 2021 Word of the Year…
…is BLOOM.
I chose bloom because it encompasses what I want most out of 2021. The word bloom makes me think of words like blossom, grow, thrive & prosper. These all really resonate with me and excite me this year.
In 2021, I am looking to both thrive and flourish as my best self. I plan to continue to invest in my health and well-being, as well as that of my family. Being a mother is my ultimate dream, and I am so grateful to be living it! I want to soak up every minute of my babies being young and really grow alongside them.
I also have some big blogging goals for 2021, and I know this site will bloom as I implement these new strategies. I hope you’ll visit again and check it out for yourself. It’s going to be a big year for Coffee With Kinzy.
Now that I’ve shared my thoughts, I’d love to know what word or words are you considering for the year to come? Drop me a comment below!
